Our Story

Born from loss.
Built on love.

Ellen Pauline Kise dedicated years of her life to women and children in Sierra Leone. When she passed in 2008, she left behind an unfinished mission. LEWAF was founded in her memory to carry that work forward — and officially established in 2014.

Today, from our head office in Freetown and three field offices across Sierra Leone, we work in the communities where the need is greatest and women's voices are least heard.

"Before LEWAF came to our community, I had no way to save money safely or access a loan. Now I run a small business and my children go to school."

"After LEWAF's legal education sessions, I understood I have rights. I helped three women in my community report violence and access justice."
